1986 Gyunggi Province. The body of a young woman is found brutally raped and murdered. Two months later, a series of rapes and murders commences under similar circumstances. And in a country that had never known such crimes, the dark whispers about a serial murderer grow louder. A special task force is set up in the area, with two local detectives Park Doo-Man and Jo Young-Goo joined by a detective from Seoul who requested to be assigned to the case.

หนังคลาสสิกขึ้นหิ้งขวัญใจคนดูหนังทั่วโลก ผลงานกำกับปี 2003 ของ บงจุนโฮ (เจ้าของรางวัลออสการ์จาก Parasite) สร้างจากเหตุการณ์ฆาตกรรมสะเทือนขวัญช่วงปี 1986 – 1991 ณ เมืองเล็ก ๆ นอกกรุงโซล เมื่อผู้หญิง 10 คน ซึ่งมีตั้งแต่เด็กนักเรียนวัย 13 ปี ถึงคุณยายวัย 71 ปี ถูกข่มขืนและสังหารอย่างเหี้ยมโหดภายในขอบเขตพื้นที่รัศมีเพียง 2 กิโลเมตร ด้วยฝีมือของ “ฆาตกรต่อเนื่องคนแรกของเกาหลี” ไม่เพียงตัวเหตุการณ์ที่วิปริต แต่สิ่งที่สร้างความสยดสยองแก่ผู้คนไม่น้อยกว่ากันก็คือ การที่ฆาตกรไม่ทิ้งร่องรอยหลักฐานอะไรไว้เลย มันจึงกลายเป็นคดีปริศนาที่ต้องใช้ตำรวจรวมกว่า 3 แสนนายในการสืบหาเบาะแสอย่างสับสนวุ่นวาย มีผู้ต้องสงสัยถูกสอบสวนกว่า 3 พันคน ...แต่ไม่เคยมีการจับตัวคนร้ายมาดำเนินคดีได้เลยแม้แต่คนเดียว!
Memories of Murder นำเสนอเหตุการณ์พิลึกพิลั่นนี้ทาบทับลงบนภาพของสังคมเกาหลีใต้ใน “ยุคสมัยแห่งความไร้เดียงสาและความเพิกเฉย” ผ่านเรื่องของตำรวจสองนายที่ได้รับมอบหมายให้คลี่คลายคดีดังกล่าวโดยไร้ซึ่งความสนับสนุนช่วยเหลือ มีเพียงการสืบสวนและการดั้นด้นค้นหาซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่าเท่านั้นเป็นเครื่องมือ พวกเขาต้องเผชิญหน้าตามลำพังกับโชคร้ายเกินคาดและความโหดร้ายเกินจินตนาการ โดยไม่อาจคาดเดาได้ว่าภารกิจแห่งฝันร้ายนี้จะลงเอยอย่างไร
